Three Budget-Friendly Ways to Make Your Living Room Look Expensive

Your living room is one of the most important rooms in your home. It’s where you’ll spend the majority of your time relaxing and entertaining guests, so it’s understandable to want to make a great impression. If you’re on a tight budget, try these three simple tricks to get a designer look without breaking the bank.

Incorporate a Variety of Textures
While it’s common for people to purchase furniture sets, this can create too much of a “matchy-matchy” look. Many design experts suggest doing the opposite. Instead of purchasing a matching sofa and loveseat, consider buying a sofa and two accent leather chairs. Don’t be afraid to use different wood colors or fabrics, which can make the space feel more interesting.

On a smaller scale, add texture with pillows and knit blankets. Accent rugs are also an excellent way to add warmth to the room.

Choose a Large Piece of Wall Art
Unique wall decor can be a great conversation starter. You don’t have to buy a one-of-a-kind, expensive piece, but choose a large enough work of art to set the tone of the room. If you love bright colors, go for something abstract. If your house is minimalistic, select a modern art piece. Shades of beige and blue work beautifully with a beach house. Both thrift stores and estate sales are great places to look for unique, low-cost items.

Stylish Window Treatments
Window treatments don’t have to be boring. Aside from providing privacy, elegant drapery panels, sleek roller shades, and bamboo blinds can enhance the look and feel of your space. Many homeowners make the mistake of buying draperies that are too short. To create a luxurious look, curtains should gently touch the floor.

Using long drapes on small windows is a great strategy to make any room appear larger. When choosing textures, keep in mind how they will alter the lighting of the room. Sheer drapes will allow natural light to filter in, while thicker ones will block light. Whatever style you choose, keep the rod simple to avoid detracting from the window covering. Placing the rod higher up on the wall will also lengthen the windows.

When it comes to styling your living room, less is more. Select quality accents over quantity. Keep an uncluttered, clean space to instantly give your living room an upscale, beautiful look.
